Dick, you were always a light and guide to us. The two of you accepted a young couple, still very much in need of growth and guidance, and brought to the presence of the Lord. You are our ""captain"" forever. Rest at the foot of his throne, good friend.

It was a true privilege to know Dick Hughes, and to be able to experience the deep and beautiful faith in God he shared with the world. His love for his wife and family was a clear and shining beacon that will continue through the generations, and stands as a testament to the power of his spirit. What a truly wonderful man he was, and how lucky we all were to have traveled the road with him. May God continue to bless all the Hughes family. I know Dick is watching over you all as lovingly and stalwartly from heaven as he did on earth.

My memories of Dick are from when I was a high school aged girl some 30 years ago, when he and Pat were neighbors of ours, and also attended our church: St. Patrick's. I would often babysit in the Hughes home for their lovely children, and had the upmost respect and admiration for Dick and his family. Dick was a very loving father to his wife and children and modeled a life of quiet strength and devotion to God. There was always a light in his heart that reflected the love of God to me and to those around him. He was a great listener, and encourager, and helped me in my personal journey of faith by being a role-model of the kind of husband and father that was a blessing to his wife and children. I will always remember him as a Godly mentor to me at a time in my life where I was struggling with the normal things of growing up and leaving home. Dick and Pat's home was a place I felt God's love in, because Dick carried a light in his heart for God that shown. I'm sure that many others could say the same about Dick! He was a man that made a difference in this world, just by being who God made him to be and shining God's candle in this world! He will be missed by many! With God's Blessings to Pat and their lovely children, at this time of Dick's being called home to be with his Father in Heaven. From Corinne Kelly Avery

Dick Hughes is the legend I knew growing up through my Father Dick Shepard of Shepard Glass and Tile. Together they tiled most of Central New York working out of a shop down on Hawley Ave. , the old movie theatre.Dick was a hard working , loyal, Master Craftsmen. My father always spoke so highly of Dick, and boy did they have stories.... I wish your Family and all your relations our deepest sympathy and will miss him dearly. My father who passed away a couple years ago will certainly greet him at the gates of Heaven and pick up where they left off......... Amen
