One of my favorite things was you could never be mad at Banini. Even after he dropped a shoulder and just laid you out. He'd grab your hand and pull you up laughing.

Always a difficult match up and a great competitor.
He pretty much single-handedly ended our high school careers in the sectionals.
And I found out after high school (when I didn't have to play against him !)a great guy as well!
RIP Greg

First game with Oneida Silverhawks, 1995, Fort Covington. Exhibition game against Akwesasne. I get in the goal in the third period and within seconds Greg is wide open. He shoots, hits me right in the chest. My first thought was, wow, I stopped Greg Tarbell's shot. My second thought was -- did I forget to put my chest pad on? I thought somebody had hit me with a baseball bat.

Greg and I were roommates and teammates at Cobleskill. His ability on the field as a play maker and forcing his will on opposing defenses was unmatched in that era. To say we have lost a great one, doesn't say enough. His influence on and off the field is something I've always cherished. My sincere condolences to his family. RIP Banini.

Send my regards to everyone that Greg knew. He was a Great person who would always leave a lasting memory in visiting you. Greg met me through lacrosse and became a friend who shared not only himself but all around him. Loved and hold dearly the memories of hanging with him and teammates. Laughter was all around as we all took shots at each other. But deep down we all had each other's back. Our hearts are all heavy today. Feel so honored to have shared so many good times together. Brother's Bobby, Jimmy, Gulla, Mark, Larry, Billy, Gaylord we witnessed a great person on and off the floor. Dam in this sad time one has to smile in the fin times we all had. Where kids today are always talking about the Thompson brothers, my generation of lacrosse players around LaFayette were always wanting to be Greg Tarbell. He destroyed defenders, running through them like a bull, a or around them like a quick cat, but it was the fear he put in goalies is what made us mostly want to be like Greg. What a shot, what a guy, he will be missed. Good Journey. Bart White
